Principles Of Teaching 1 By Corpuz And Salandanan (pdf)

The principles of teaching draw on the experiences of first-generation educators, primarily low-income parents who often have Ph.D. degrees yet lack experience in education and training programs. Additionally, they bring on the world of their students with an understanding that children are learners too - not just recipients of knowledge or subjects to be tested on. These educators believe that education is about more than just successfully meting out an idea; it's about cultivating knowledge and fostering curiosity in students so they can learn how to learn for themselves, meet different needs, and be educated as complete individuals who think critically about what they're doing. In teaching, as in life, there are moments of struggle and accomplishment. For these educators the struggle is as important as the victory. And if they can be successful, then it's worth persevering through those struggles because they'll make a difference to their students' lives and the lives of their communities. Educators may reflect on what has happened at other times in their careers when a particular lesson or approach worked well for a certain group of students or problem they were facing. The principles of teaching reflect on those lessons and experiences so that first-generation educators can learn from them and pass this knowledge on to others. The principles of teaching are supported by the work of other experts in the field. Ten experts in teaching reviewed these principles and offered recommendations in areas including curriculum design, teaching methods, assessment, building community support for educators, and educating students with special needs. The experts were supported by experts in developmental psychology, learning theory, bilingual education, crisis intervention techniques, program evaluation and development. Since 2008, the International Association for Teaching & Education has provided guidance on developing the Principles of Teaching. A checklist is available for teachers that can be used to track progress towards meeting each principle. Prof. Lourdes B.
